First – The difference between ( this – that )
Both are used
for the singular noun and come in the sentence as the demonstrative pronoun
but, the difference between them is:
(This) is
used when we talking about close
something for examples:
- This pencil is mine.
- This child is very kind.
- This dress was so unique.
- This is a decorative engineer who designed my house.
- This office is very luxurious.
But ( that )
is used when we talking or point to something is far for examples:
- That palm tree is very high.
- That boy is nervous.
- That girl is on the cover of the magazine.
- That teacher is very nervous.
- That doctor traveled the conference last night.
Second – The difference between ( these – those )
Both are used
to indicate or talk about many things, that is they express plural but the only
difference between them is :
(These) is
used when we talk about close things for examples :
- These students are studying physics.
- These dresses are the latest trend for international fashion .
- These trees are beautiful.
- These sisters are very helpful .
- These seats are reserved .
But ( those )
is used when we talking about several things but they are far away and not
close for examples :
- Those are my jackets.
- Those new dresses in the closet.
- Those fresh apples from this tree.
- Daily I read to my daughter those stories that help sleeping.
Where we use ( that – this – these – those ) in the sentence:
1-Before the
nouns for example:
- This is Salma.
- This is Ahmed that we got to know at the party.
- That Ali is Sara' husband.
2- Before the
adjectives for example:
- That is a cheap car.
- This is a very bad restaurant.
- Those are so economic cars.
3-We need to know that we use before the word ( one ) just ( that -this ) and not be used ( these – those ).
And now that
we're done explaining ( demonstrative pronouns ) and use both with review of
several examples, we can conclude our lesson today and to meet in a new lesson
